One of the many amazing perks that come with being a photographer is getting to meet and collaborate with interesting and inspiring people. Sarah Sociables is no exception, and has fast become one of my favourite return clients! We’ve worked together many times and what always strikes me most about Sarah is how chill and down to Earth she is. I finally had to ask this fabulous lady a few burning questions. I think sometimes it’s easy to get caught up with who we are today, or who we want to be in the future. But do you ever stop to appreciate all the people you have been? All the different skills and facets of your personality that developed over time to make you who you are? Do you ever think about all the people who’ve crossed your path that completely shook up and influenced your life?
My wheels crunched over gravel in the evening summer heat as I pulled into the English country-house style B&B in Rosebud, AB, cleverly named Banks & Braes. I was a few minutes late, so I had hurried along the highway downing coffee in preparation for the night of star photography that lay ahead of me. I had been hired to capture the dark skies above the artistic theatre town of Rosebud nestled into a valley about 30 minutes south of Drumheller, and had been told this place was a must see.
As someone who has worked in a creative field for most of my life, I have seen my share of ups and downs. Things like trying to balance passion vs. income, fighting insecurities around capabilities, and finding your niche are just a few of the tough struggles us creative types go through. Over the years I’ve read a lot of helpful books on how to get through these battles and not give up on my biggest dreams. Here’s my top 5!
I found myself feeling unsettled and irritated. I’ve talked in the past about weighing too much of my self worth on how productive I can be, and here I was doing the same thing to myself during such an unknown time. One day after turning off the TV in boredom and annoyance, I asked myself “What is the best use of my time?”
