The Gift of Awareness

Ever since adding daily meditation to my life, I feel like time has slowed down. Each day seems to stretch out longer, each minute has more of my attention. One thought popped up that I thought was truly worthy of a moment of pause. I felt like it had been a long time since I left the house with my camera just to capture the beauty in my own life. A sunny trip to the dog park was the perfect time to flex my photo muscles and get back to the joy of the art form.

I never want to lose that sense of wonder and excitement around what I do. It seems there is always more to learn, better ways of seeing, or different ways to edit an image. Perhaps it’s a good reminder to not become complacent of any of the gifts in our lives. Once in awhile, we should give our loved ones an extra hug, imagine the history or appreciate the shelter of whatever room we are sitting in, be thankful for every minute of sleep, drop of clean water, and morsel of food. None of us know when or how things could change. Life is simply ticking down for all of us, so why not acknowledge and enjoy every blessing life has to offer.

On this day I was grateful for the sunshine, the incredible blue sky, and the peacefulness of the river. I especially enjoyed watching my dog Jake chase a ball in an off leash park for the first time and seeing the giant smile my fiance Dan’s face. I’m so thankful I had the desire and awareness to bring my trusty camera along, so I can now look back and remember this beautiful day.
