I’m so damn excited to share this with you all.

Last January my resolution for 2018 was to shoot more video. So when my friend Whirly Bird asked me to come to Tofino to shoot a music video for her, I jumped at the chance. I was up front with her that I had never shot a music video before and was only starting to mess around with video editing software. But for some reason, she had faith in me. And boy, am I glad she did.

I met Whirly Bird by chance, years ago. It was 2012 and I had just gotten out of a terrible relationship. I felt lost and broken but was enjoying my new found freedom. A friend and I had gone to a club to meet up with a new DJ friend we had made. It wasn’t really my scene and I was feeling out of sorts. Then I see the most unique looking woman I have ever seen. And I was staring at her. Maybe that sounds creepy, but as a portrait photographer, sometimes people just fully capture your attention. It was like she had an aura around her, and I instantly wanted to photograph her. I didn’t quite have the nerve to go up to her and say “Hi I’m a photographer and you’re super interesting looking, so can I photograph you??” Luckily fate had other plans. Turns out the DJ we went to meet knew her and we just happened to be introduced. We became friends, and although I did tell her how unique looking she was, we never did shoot back then.

Jump to 2018. I’ve helped her design a logo and business card but thats about it. When she asked me to come to Tofino for this vid, I was so damn excited. First of all, I love helping people get their visions off the ground. I live for it. But to do it for someone so cool in such a beautiful place was such an honour. Whirly has an amazing story and a beautiful spirit. We spent a week driving around to her favourite spots in Tofino, every place more beautiful than the last. It was an amazing trip and I got the chance to combine my two passions, music and photography… AND I finally got my photoshoot with her. I’ll be sharing those soon. :)

This video means a lot to me. I know I still have a lot to learn in regards to video, but it was an experience I’ll always treasure. Hope you guys like it. (Make sure to watch in 1080p HD for the full experience!) :)
